It is bittersweet when play therapy relationships come to an end. On the one hand, it is wonderful when a child is ready to move on. On the other hand, it is a loss of a deep and important relationship for both the child and the therapist. This workshop will look at when it is appropriate to end, how to create a positive end to a therapeutic relationship, and how to handle it when we can’t have the ending we want.
***Training Objectives: Participants will identify three signs that it is time for a play therapy relationship to end. Participants will practice discussing terminations and endings with clients and parents. Participants will identify two ways to handle abrupt terminations.
