This training explores how art can be used in play therapy as an invitation to connect, express, and process. Grounded in the belief that the therapeutic relationship is the agent of change, we’ll examine how art supports emotional safety, regulation, and authentic self-expression within a relational framework. We’ll explore how the symbolic nature of art can deepen connection, reveal inner experiences, and support co-regulation. ***Training Objectives: Identify at least three ways that art can be used as a relational tool to support emotional expression, regulation, and connection in play therapy. Demonstrate how to offer art materials as an invitation that respects client autonomy, pacing, and readiness. Describe the role of the therapeutic relationship in facilitating meaning-making through art within a child-centered and trauma-informed framework.
